The upcoming HBO ‘Harry Potter’ TV series has encountered a major production challenge as filming gets underway, with the biggest hurdle being the limited working hours allowed for its young cast.
Unlike adult actors, child performers must follow strict labour and education regulations, meaning they can spend only a limited amount of time filming each day before returning to their studies. The restrictions have forced the production team to carefully plan every scene to maximise the available shooting time.
Young Cast
The highly anticipated reboot stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
The series marks a fresh adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, with an entirely new cast taking on the iconic roles that were previously made famous by the original film franchise.
Crew Opens Up
Cinematographer Adriano Goldman said the filming schedule has been “brutal” because the young actors are only able to work for around 90 minutes before they must return to school.
As a result, the production crew prepares lighting, camera setups and rehearsals while the children are attending classes. Once the actors arrive on set, the team works quickly to capture as many scenes as possible within the limited time available.
Goldman also revealed that scenes are often filmed out of sequence, as the production schedule must constantly adapt to the children’s availability.

School on Set
To help the young cast balance their education with filming commitments, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden has established a temporary school on the studio lot.
According to reports, the facility can accommodate up to 600 students during the busiest production periods, although around 150 children typically attend classes on filming days.
The on-site school allows child actors to continue their education without interrupting the demanding production schedule.
Balancing Quality and Speed
Goldman acknowledged that the fast-paced filming schedule can sometimes affect the creative process, as the crew has very little time to perfect individual scenes.
However, he said the production team has adapted to the circumstances and continues to work within the regulations designed to protect child actors while ensuring they receive a proper education.
Premiere Date
Despite the production challenges, work on the series is continuing, and HBO is moving ahead with its ambitious reboot of the Wizarding World franchise.
The new ‘Harry Potter’ TV series is currently scheduled to premiere worldwide on December 25, 2026, with fans eagerly awaiting a fresh retelling of one of the most popular fantasy stories ever created.
