Imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has issued a clear directive to launch a nationwide movement against the government following the 10th of Muharram. Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail alongside his sisters, Aleema Khan revealed that Imran Khan is being deprived of basic rights in prison and kept in prolonged solitary confinement.
According to Aleema Khan, Imran Khan believes the current political system has rendered the vote meaningless, the judiciary has been turned into a government department, and the media has been completely silenced. He stated, “If the public’s voice is to be suppressed, then it is better to officially declare a monarchy, because what we are witnessing is not democracy but a system of enslavement.”
He further instructed the party to formally begin the anti-government movement after Muharram 10. Commending the resistance by the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, he urged the restricted members to hold parallel sessions outside the official assembly.
Serious concerns were also raised about Imran Khan’s legal team. Aleema Khan alleged that lawyer Zaheer Abbas was allowed only 90 seconds to meet him, while other lawyers were not permitted to meet at all. She accused authorities of deliberately trying to “minus” Imran Khan from the political scene, adding that he is being denied books, rest, and is allowed outside his cell for only two hours daily.
It is worth noting that Imran Khan is currently serving sentences in multiple cases, while his party continues to face political pressure and judicial hurdles. The announcement of a post-Muharram movement is being seen as a critical turning point that could further intensify the country’s political climate.
