Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), has strongly rejected recent remarks made by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, describing them as provocative and reflective of a “dangerous mindset.”
The statement was issued on Sunday in response to comments in which the Indian army chief reportedly suggested that Pakistan should reconsider its place in geography and history.
ISPR terms remarks “provocative and unrealistic”
In its response, ISPR said such statements demonstrate an inability within sections of the Indian leadership to accept the existence of Pakistan as a sovereign and established state.
The military’s media wing said Pakistan is a recognized nuclear power and an integral part of South Asia, stressing that its existence is both historical and geographical.
It further added that such rhetoric reflects a “delusional and confrontational mindset” that has repeatedly contributed to instability in the region.
Warning against escalation
The ISPR warned that any attempt to target Pakistan or undermine its sovereignty could lead to consequences that would not remain confined geographically.
It stated that nuclear-armed states are expected to exercise restraint and responsibility rather than engage in aggressive or inflammatory language.
The statement emphasized that escalation between the two countries would have serious implications not only for South Asia but also for broader international stability.
Criticism of regional posture
The military’s media wing also accused India of maintaining a historically aggressive posture in the region, claiming that such attitudes have contributed to repeated tensions and crises.
It further alleged that India has engaged in destabilizing actions in the region, though no specific evidence was cited in the statement.
Call for peaceful coexistence
Despite the strong language, ISPR reiterated that long-term peace in South Asia depends on mutual respect and coexistence between both nuclear-armed neighbours.
It urged Indian leadership to adopt a more responsible and restrained approach, warning that continued hostile rhetoric could push the region toward further instability.
Broader regional context
Relations between Pakistan and India have remained tense for decades, marked by periods of military conflict, diplomatic breakdowns, and ongoing disputes over security and territorial issues.
Observers note that statements from both sides often reflect heightened sensitivities and deep-rooted mistrust, particularly during periods of regional or global geopolitical stress.
