KARACHI: Karachi Traffic Police have announced a special traffic management plan for processions being held in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on Wednesday, August 26.
According to a Karachi Traffic Police spokesperson, three major processions are scheduled to depart from Memon Masjid after 2pm. Senior traffic police officers have been directed to personally supervise traffic arrangements and ensure smooth movement in their respective districts.
The authorities have also announced alternative routes for motorists in the Central, East and South districts to minimise congestion and facilitate the movement of processions.
Traffic Plan for District Central
Motorists travelling from Nazimabad will be able to use Lasbela Chowk, followed by Nishter Road and Garden, to reach their destinations.
Those travelling from Liaquatabad have been advised to turn left at Teen Hatti and proceed towards Sandal Jail via Martin Road.
Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Hasan Square towards Paposh Nagar can use Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal, Shahrah-e-Quaidin and the Jail Flyover before reaching Teen Hatti and Nishter Road.
Traffic police have urged motorists to follow the designated alternative routes to avoid delays and reduce pressure on roads along the procession routes.
Traffic Plan for District East
In District East, motorists travelling from Shahrah-e-Faisal towards Numaish via Shahrah-e-Quaidin will be diverted at Society Light Signal.
Drivers will be directed towards Kashmir Road as an alternative route.
Traffic travelling from the Central Jail gate on Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir and MA Jinnah Road will also be diverted. Motorists can use Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazaar to continue their journey.
The diversions are intended to keep major roads clear for the processions while maintaining connectivity between different parts of the city.
Traffic Plan for District South
Several diversions have also been announced for District South.
Traffic travelling from Garden Zoo towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted through the Anarkali area towards Gul Plaza and Coast Guard Road.
Motorists travelling from Kemari towards MA Jinnah Road via Empress Market will be diverted at Saddar Dawakhana towards People’s Chowrangi.
Vehicles heading towards Prince Road will be diverted via Abdullah Haroon Road towards MR Kayani Chowk.
Karachi Announces Traffic Plan for Chehlum Procession, Major Roads to Remain Closed
Traffic movement from MR Kayani Chowk towards Court Road and Kabutar Chowrangi will not be permitted. Instead, motorists will be diverted from the Arts Council towards Pakistan Chowk.
Similarly, traffic travelling from Shahrah-e-Liaquat towards Burns Road will be diverted at Aram Bagh Light Signal towards Pakistan Chowk.
Heavy Commercial Vehicles Banned
Karachi Traffic Police have also announced a citywide ban on the movement of heavy commercial vehicles on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal.
The restriction is intended to help prevent additional congestion and allow emergency and procession-related traffic to move more efficiently.
The traffic police have also strictly prohibited parking along the designated procession routes.
“No vehicle will be allowed to park along the procession routes,” the traffic police spokesperson said.
Motorists Advised to Plan Journeys
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed by Muslims around the world on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
With major processions expected to move through several parts of Karachi, residents have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the announced alternative routes.
Motorists travelling through Central, East and South districts are likely to face diversions and temporary restrictions during the procession hours. Following traffic police instructions and avoiding procession routes where possible can help reduce delays and ensure smoother traffic movement across the city.
The traffic plan will remain particularly important during the afternoon and evening as the processions get underway, with senior traffic officials tasked with monitoring the arrangements on the ground.
