Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif jokingly said he would ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appoint him as the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) if the party wins the upcoming elections in the region.

Addressing party workers in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday, Nawaz made the remark in a light-hearted manner while discussing the party’s plans for the region.

Says AJK Is His ‘Second Home’

Nawaz Sharif said it had been a long time since he last met the people of Azad Kashmir.

“Today, we are meeting after a very long time. I have remained away from you,” he told supporters.

He also described Azad Kashmir as being as dear to him as Punjab, adding that the region is his “second home.”

Questions Delay in Motorway Project

During his address, the former prime minister questioned why a motorway had still not been constructed between Kohala and Muzaffarabad.

He suggested that improved road infrastructure would benefit the region and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to development projects if elected.

Promises Regular Visits

Nawaz Sharif pledged that if the PML-N wins the upcoming AJK elections, he would personally visit the region every three months to monitor development work.

He said he would review the progress of projects himself and ensure that promises made to the people are implemented.

Urges Voters to Support PML-N

The PML-N president called on voters to support his party in the forthcoming elections, saying it would work to resolve the region’s challenges and promote development.

Referring to Punjab, Nawaz said several development projects initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were now being completed under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, presenting them as examples of the party’s governance record.

He expressed confidence that similar efforts could be undertaken in Azad Jammu and Kashmir if the PML-N is elected to power.
