Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic cooperation, and promoting regional connectivity following high-level talks between President Asif Ali Zardari and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov during the Pakistani president’s official visit to the Central Asian country.

The meeting marked a significant milestone in bilateral relations, as it is the first visit by a Pakistani president to Kyrgyzstan in 21 years. The visit follows President Japarov’s trip to Pakistan in December 2025, reflecting the growing momentum in diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Leaders Agree to Deepen Bilateral Relations

During delegation-level talks, President Zardari said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan enjoy longstanding brotherly relations built on shared faith, historical links, and cultural ties.

He emphasized the importance of transforming these close relations into stronger economic partnerships by increasing bilateral trade, improving transportation links, and identifying new areas of cooperation.

The president noted that neighbouring countries should work closely together to achieve shared prosperity and promote long-term regional stability.

Focus on Trade and Regional Connectivity

President Zardari stressed the need to expand trade by increasing the exchange of goods and encouraging business cooperation between the two countries.

He also highlighted the importance of improving regional connectivity through additional direct flights, stronger transport links, and enhanced cooperation under regional trade and connectivity initiatives.

Referring to the historic Silk Route, he said the centuries-old connection between Pakistan and Central Asia provides a strong foundation for building closer economic and commercial ties.

The president added that Pakistan is ready to supply high-quality products to Kyrgyzstan at competitive prices while encouraging greater collaboration in industry, scientific research, innovation, and modern technology.

Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors

The two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in several important sectors, including:

  • Trade and investment
  • Energy
  • Agriculture
  • Textiles
  • Mining and minerals
  • Information technology
  • Science and innovation
  • Education
  • Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
  • Tourism
  • The halal industry

Both sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people contacts and creating more opportunities for educational and cultural exchanges.

CASA-1000 Project Highlighted

President Sadyr Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to implementing the CASA-1000 energy project, which aims to transmit surplus hydroelectric power from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The project is regarded as one of the region’s most significant energy connectivity initiatives and is expected to enhance electricity cooperation among participating countries.

Support on Regional and International Issues

President Zardari congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, describing the achievement as recognition of the country’s constructive role in promoting international peace and multilateral cooperation.

He said Pakistan looks forward to working closely with Kyrgyzstan on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The president also emphasized investing in young people and promoting regional peace and prosperity through stronger cooperation between neighbouring countries.

Growing Partnership Between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan

President Japarov reiterated that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Pakistan and remains committed to elevating bilateral ties to a higher level.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the relationship between the two countries is rooted in shared history, cultural affinity, common religious heritage, and a mutual desire to strengthen peace, connectivity, and economic cooperation across Central and South Asia.

The latest high-level engagement underscores both countries’ intention to broaden cooperation beyond traditional diplomacy by expanding trade, investment, energy collaboration, and regional connectivity for mutual economic benefit.
