ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing them as a violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while reaffirming Pakistan’s continued support for the country’s security.

The prime minister made the remarks in a post on X on Tuesday, a day after Saudi Arabia announced that its coalition forces had intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement toward the Kingdom’s southern region.

PM Shehbaz Condemns Missile Attacks

In his statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the attacks on Saudi Arabia were “reprehensible” and warned that such actions could further undermine peace and stability across the region.

He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to standing alongside Saudi Arabia during a challenging period.

“Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security and stands in complete solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at this critical time,” the prime minister said.

He also stressed that Pakistan would continue to back all sincere initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, stability and mutual understanding throughout the region.

Saudi Arabia Reports Missile Interceptions

The statement came after Saudi Arabia said its air defence systems intercepted ballistic missiles fired by the Houthi movement from Yemen toward the Kingdom’s southern territory.

According to a spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition operating in Yemen, the missiles were successfully intercepted before reaching their intended targets.

The reported attacks are part of ongoing regional tensions that have continued to affect security across the Middle East.

Pakistan-Saudi Defence Cooperation

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share longstanding diplomatic, economic and defence ties that have expanded further in recent years.

In September 2025, the two countries signed a mutual defence pact under which both sides agreed to regard any aggression against either country as an attack on both, significantly strengthening their decades-long security partnership.

The agreement also provides a framework for closer military cooperation, joint planning and coordination on regional security matters.

Joint Military Collaboration

As part of the enhanced defence partnership, Pakistan deployed fighter aircraft and military personnel to Saudi Arabia in April 2026.

According to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence, Pakistani fighter jets and support aircraft arrived at King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Kingdom’s eastern province to strengthen joint defence cooperation and contribute to regional and international security and stability.

Military cooperation between the two countries also includes joint exercises, professional training and regular exchanges between their armed forces.

Commitment to Regional Stability

Pakistan has consistently maintained that dialogue, diplomacy and cooperation remain the most effective means of addressing regional conflicts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz’s latest statement reflects Islamabad’s continued support for Saudi Arabia while reiterating Pakistan’s broader commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East through constructive engagement and cooperation.

Analysts say the close security relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia remains an important pillar of bilateral ties, particularly as regional tensions continue to pose challenges to peace and stability across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
