Islamabad: Pakistan has once again stepped into a key diplomatic role as efforts continue to arrange a second round of talks between the United States and Iran. In a recent high-level meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi discussed ongoing diplomatic developments with the US Charge d’Affaires in Islamabad, focusing on regional stability and peace efforts.

Focus on Diplomacy and Regional Stability

During the meeting with US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker, both sides exchanged views on the evolving situation in the region and the importance of continued diplomatic engagement.

Naqvi emphasized that diplomacy remains the only viable path toward resolving tensions and achieving lasting peace. He also stated that Pakistan hopes for constructive progress from all parties involved in the negotiations.

Pakistan’s Mediation Role Highlighted

According to official statements, Pakistan continues to play a mediating role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Naqvi said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir are actively engaged in efforts at all levels to support a peaceful resolution.

The US diplomat also acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting regional peace, reflecting appreciation for Islamabad’s diplomatic engagement.

US–Iran Talks May Resume Within Days, Says Trump Amid Ongoing Diplomatic Uncertainty

Background: Ongoing US–Iran Talks

The discussions come amid efforts to organize a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran. Reports suggest that the talks could take place soon, although no official confirmation has been issued by either side.

The first round of talks reportedly took place in Islamabad earlier this month and lasted several hours, marking the first direct engagement between US and Iranian officials in over a decade. That meeting focused on key issues including Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions, and maritime tensions in the region.

Ceasefire and Regional Tensions

The diplomatic process follows a fragile ceasefire arrangement that was extended earlier this week. The ceasefire was intended to create space for negotiations and reduce escalating tensions in the region.

However, challenges remain, particularly regarding maritime security in strategic waterways. Iranian officials have expressed concerns over naval restrictions, linking them to broader ceasefire conditions.

As diplomatic efforts continue, Pakistan’s role as a facilitator remains central to ongoing discussions. While optimism exists regarding the possibility of renewed talks, the situation remains sensitive, with outcomes dependent on continued engagement from all parties involved.
