LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert across Punjab as the ninth and final spell of the monsoon season is expected to bring rain to several districts from September 12 to 17.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, the incoming weather system is likely to affect multiple parts of the province, prompting authorities to step up preparations for possible rain-related emergencies.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts of the country over the weekend and is likely to intensify by September 14.
Urban flooding, landslides among key concerns
PDMA Director General Saif Anwar Jappa warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in major cities, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
Authorities have also raised concerns about possible flash flooding in rainwater drains, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
The PDMA warned of landslides in hilly areas, including Murree and the Galiat region, where heavy rain can create additional risks for residents and travellers.
In view of the forecast, Jappa directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to remain vigilant and ensure that relevant departments are fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation.

Rain forecast across Punjab
According to the forecast, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Attock are among the areas expected to receive rain under the influence of the weather system.
From September 14 to 17, rain is expected in Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Kasur, Okara, Nankana Sahib and Sargodha.
The forecast also includes several districts in central and southern Punjab. These include Khushab, Mianwali, Noorpur Thal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan, along with surrounding areas.
Authorities have urged district administrations to remain prepared throughout the forecast period, particularly in areas vulnerable to urban flooding, flash floods and landslides.
The latest spell is expected to be the ninth and final monsoon system affecting Punjab this season.
