Sebastian Stan has offered a rare glimpse into the secretive production of Avengers: Doomsday, revealing that Marvel Studios went to considerable lengths to keep the highly anticipated film’s plot confidential.

Stan, who plays James “Bucky” Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said that even members of the cast were not given access to the complete screenplay while working on the crossover movie.

Instead, actors reportedly filmed individual scenes without having the full picture of how the story would unfold.

Cast Filmed Scattered Scenes

In a recent interview, Stan explained that the cast did not receive a complete script. According to the actor, they worked on what he described as “scattered scenes,” reflecting a production process that can change continuously as filming progresses.

“We didn’t have a [full] script. We were just shooting scattered scenes,” Stan explained, describing the experience as a different way of working that is constantly evolving.

The approach is particularly notable for a major Marvel production, where story details can be closely guarded months or even years before a film reaches theaters.

For actors, however, working without the complete screenplay can mean performing individual scenes without knowing precisely how they fit into the larger narrative.

Marvel’s Strict Approach to Spoilers

Stan also explained why the studio chose to limit the cast’s access to the complete story.

According to the actor, producers were concerned that having the entire screenplay available could make it easier for important plot details to emerge during interviews with journalists.

“The producers didn’t want us to read it in its entirety to avoid journalists asking us questions,” Stan said.

Tom Hiddleston’s Emotional Comments on Loki Resurface Ahead of ‘Doomsday’

For Stan, the secrecy is nothing particularly new. He has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for around 15 years and said he has become accustomed to the studio’s strict approach to protecting story details.

Marvel has frequently relied on extensive secrecy surrounding its major productions, particularly films featuring multiple characters and interconnected storylines. Keeping actors from knowing certain details can also help reduce the possibility of major twists or character appearances being revealed before release.

Stan Is Also Keeping The Batman: Part II Details Secret

Stan’s comments come as he is involved in another major superhero project. The actor is set to play Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II, but he has also remained careful when discussing details about that film.

His reluctance to reveal information reflects the increasing level of secrecy surrounding large-scale superhero productions, where even seemingly minor comments can fuel speculation among fans.

A Major Marvel Crossover

Avengers: Doomsday is expected to bring together a large group of established Marvel characters and returning stars.

The cast includes Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Tom Hiddleston and Paul Rudd, alongside several actors associated with the X-Men franchise. The film is being directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, who have previously helmed several major entries in the Avengers series.

With such a large ensemble and numerous connections to different corners of the Marvel universe, keeping the storyline confidential is likely to remain a priority for the studio.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, making it one of the most closely watched upcoming releases in the Marvel franchise. For now, Stan’s comments provide only a small glimpse behind the curtain while much of the film’s story remains firmly under wraps.
