The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded his statement before the inquiry committee investigating the Swat River tragedy.
According to the PDMA, a weather alert was issued to the district administration on June 23, predicting heavy rainfall in various districts, including Peshawar and Swat, from June 25. The warning also highlighted the risk of flash floods in local streams across Swat, Dir, Kohistan, and Shangla.
The DG PDMA stated that district administrations were instructed to ensure the availability of both heavy and light machinery to respond to any emergencies. Furthermore, Rs. 460 million were released to all district administrations across the province, and emergency relief supplies were provided on demand.
The DG emphasized that the PDMA fulfilled all responsibilities in a timely manner before the Swat River tragedy occurred.
It should be noted that on June 26, a powerful flood wave in the Swat River swept away 17 people. While four individuals were rescued, 12 bodies have been recovered, and one person remains missing. Among the victims, one family belonged to Mardan and the other to Sialkot.
