US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize but acknowledged that he has doubts about his chances of receiving the award.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday. Trump said he was uncertain about the committee’s decision and suggested that its previous choices could work against his chances.
“I don’t know what their decision is going to be,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.”
Trump has repeatedly said since returning to the White House in January 2025 that he deserves the prestigious award. He also referred to the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
Machado presented her Nobel medal to Trump in January as she sought US support for her political efforts in Venezuela.
Trump points to involvement in eight conflicts
Trump said his efforts involving eight international conflicts should strengthen his case for the prize.
Leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have said they nominated Trump, although such nominations cannot be independently verified because Nobel nomination records remain confidential for 50 years.
Trump has claimed credit for helping resolve several conflicts, but parties involved in some of those disputes have challenged the extent of his diplomatic role. Fighting has also resumed in some areas, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and along the Cambodia-Thailand border, according to Reuters.

Ukraine war remains unresolved
Trump has also repeatedly promised to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, including a pledge to achieve a settlement shortly after returning to office. However, no final peace agreement has been reached.
His administration has also been directly involved in the Middle East conflict. US and Israeli strikes on Iran have contributed to a prolonged confrontation that has affected regional security and global energy markets.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee has said the Peace Prize remains focused on efforts that promote international cooperation, reduce military conflict and advance peace initiatives amid a rapidly changing global environment.
The 2026 winner will be announced on Friday, bringing an end to speculation over who will receive this year’s award.
