Sharjah: Three Pakistani nationals were injured after debris from an intercepted projectile fell at Khor Fakkan Port, officials said, prompting concern from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who called for restraint in the region.

Details of the Incident

According to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, a fire broke out at the port on Sunday after the UAE’s air defense systems successfully intercepted a projectile, causing debris to fall in the area. Emergency teams brought the blaze under control, and cooling operations were ongoing.

The statement added that three Pakistani nationals sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate, while a Nepalese national was seriously injured and hospitalized. Authorities urged the public to rely on official sources and avoid spreading rumours.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on social media platform X that he was “deeply concerned” over the incident and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. He added, “We remain in close contact with UAE authorities to ensure all necessary support is extended to our citizens.”

Embassy Statement and Strategic Importance of the Port

The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi also expressed concern and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Khor Fakkan Port, located on the Gulf of Oman, handles between 10 and 30 vessels daily and provides shipping access without passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This makes it a key logistical hub in the region, supporting trade and maritime operations for several countries.
