Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed optimism that Pakistan may soon host another round of Iran–US negotiations, as Islamabad continues its diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and facilitate dialogue between key regional and global powers.

PM Shehbaz Praises International Peace Efforts

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated US President Donald Trump on what he described as “extraordinary efforts” to promote peace.

He said Trump had held a productive telephone conversation with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Pakistan, focusing on the evolving regional situation and ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The prime minister added that Pakistan remains committed to supporting peace initiatives with “utmost sincerity” and hopes to host the next round of Iran–US talks in the near future.

Pakistan’s Role in Ongoing Mediation

Pakistan has been actively involved in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran amid heightened regional tensions. Senior officials, including Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir, have reportedly participated in diplomatic engagements aimed at de-escalation.

According to earlier statements from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), discussions held during recent visits to Tehran were conducted in a “positive and constructive environment” and contributed to ongoing mediation efforts.

During his visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Iranian leadership, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

Developments in Iran–US Contacts

Recent diplomatic efforts have reportedly included discussions between the United States and Iran, with claims of progress toward a possible agreement. However, details remain disputed, and Iranian media have challenged some of the reported understandings, particularly regarding strategic issues such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite differing narratives, negotiations continue under significant international pressure, with both sides exploring options for reducing tensions and avoiding renewed conflict.

Pakistan’s Continuing Diplomatic Efforts

Islamabad has played a recurring role in facilitating communication between the two sides, including earlier ceasefire arrangements and hosting preliminary rounds of talks. Although past negotiations did not result in a final agreement, diplomatic channels have remained open.

Officials in Pakistan continue to emphasize backchannel diplomacy as a means to bridge differences and prevent further escalation in the region.

As discussions evolve, Pakistan is positioning itself as a key facilitator in efforts to stabilize Iran–US relations. With continued engagement from regional and global actors, Islamabad hopes that further rounds of talks could take place soon, potentially paving the way toward a broader diplomatic breakthrough.
