Iran has indicated that broader discussions, including those related to its nuclear programme, could move forward if a proposed agreement with the United States is finalized. The remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue to reduce tensions and establish a framework for further negotiations.

Focus of the Proposed Agreement

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the proposed 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) is primarily aimed at ending ongoing hostilities and addressing maritime restrictions affecting Iran.

According to his comments, the proposed framework would involve efforts to lift the US naval blockade while Iran would take measures to facilitate secure navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments.

Potential Next Phase: Nuclear Negotiations

Baghaei explained that if the memorandum is formally agreed upon, a 60-day period would follow during which additional negotiations would take place.

These talks would reportedly focus on unresolved technical and political matters, including issues linked to Iran’s nuclear programme and implementation details of any broader agreement.

The comments suggest that the current proposal is being viewed as a framework for reducing immediate tensions rather than a complete settlement of all outstanding disputes.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

The reported proposal comes amid ongoing international efforts to encourage dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Recent discussions have focused on reducing regional instability, maritime security, sanctions-related issues, and broader political concerns.

While both sides appear to be continuing diplomatic engagement, several major issues still remain under discussion and no final agreement has been officially announced.

If finalized, the proposed memorandum could create a pathway for wider negotiations and potentially open the door for discussions on more complex issues, including Iran’s nuclear activities.

However, officials continue to indicate that key details remain unresolved, meaning the outcome of the process will likely depend on further diplomatic progress in the coming weeks.
