Brock Lesnar has announced his retirement from professional wrestling, confirming that his appearance at SummerSlam marked the end of his in-ring career.
The 49-year-old made the announcement during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, August 4, thanking fans and officially revealing that he is stepping away from WWE.
“I’m here today to let the world know that I am retired and wanted to say a big thank you to everybody,” Lesnar said during the interview.
SummerSlam Match Was His Final Bout
Lesnar’s final WWE match took place on SummerSlam Night 1, where he was defeated by Oba Femi in a Hell in a Cell match.
The event was held in Minnesota, Lesnar’s home state, making the farewell especially meaningful for the former champion.
Reflecting on the occasion, Lesnar described the experience as emotional and said he knew it was the right time to bring his wrestling career to a close.
Retirement Decision Had Been Building
According to Lesnar, he had first considered retirement after a previous match at WrestleMania.
He explained that after being defeated by Oba Femi at WrestleMania, he felt he could no longer compete at the level he expected of himself.
“When Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I said, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I think I’m done.’ But the business called, and I still had some fuel in the tank,” Lesnar said.
He added that he decided to return for one final Hell in a Cell match before officially ending his career.
“Saturday, for Brock Lesnar, that’s it. That’s it for me in the squared circle.”
