Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has confirmed that he has written a script for his tenth feature film, but he is not ready to begin production just yet.

The Pulp Fiction director shared the update during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, explaining that although he is pleased with the screenplay, he wants to focus on other aspects of his life before returning to filmmaking.

“I’ve written a script that I really like, but I want to do the play and see who I am; then I’ll then go back and spend time with my family and live a little and then see what I want to do,” Tarantino said.

His comments have renewed interest in what could become his final directorial feature. Tarantino has repeatedly said that he intends to retire from directing after making ten feature films.

However, the filmmaker has not disclosed the title, storyline or potential cast of his latest screenplay, and his remarks suggest that the project is not moving into production immediately.

Upcoming play takes priority

Before returning to the big screen, Tarantino plans to concentrate on The Popinjay Cavalier, his upcoming West End stage production starring Sacha Baron Cohen.

The project originally began as a screenplay, but Tarantino eventually decided that the story would be better suited to the theatre.

Described as a swashbuckling comedy, the production is scheduled to open at London’s Phoenix Theatre in March 2027, following preview performances in late February.

The play is expected to run for approximately three months, with its scheduled closing date set for June 13, 2027.

The production marks a significant new direction for Tarantino, whose career has primarily been associated with filmmaking. He now intends to explore the theatrical project before deciding how to proceed with his tenth movie.

Tarantino’s long-standing retirement plan

Tarantino has long maintained that he plans to step away from directing after completing ten feature films, a goal that has made his next project particularly significant for audiences.

His most recent feature as a director was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, released in 2019 and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

The film received widespread awards attention. Pitt won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance, while Tarantino received Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

With nine feature films behind him, Tarantino’s completed screenplay represents an important step towards his stated career milestone. Nevertheless, the director has indicated that writing the script does not mean he is ready to bring it to the screen.

Family time before the next film

Rather than immediately beginning another major production, Tarantino wants to take time away from his usual filmmaking routine.

His plans include working on the stage production, spending time with his family and enjoying life before deciding whether to proceed with the screenplay.

For fans awaiting his tenth film, the update offers confirmation that a script exists, but no immediate production timeline.

For now, Tarantino’s attention remains on The Popinjay Cavalier and his move into live theatre, leaving the future of his next feature film open until he decides what he wants to do next.
