Trump made the remarks on Sunday during a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

While discussing immigration and recent unrest in France, the US president said he would welcome immigrants from some countries but not from Norway, linking his position to the failure to award him the Nobel Peace Prize.

“So I don’t want anybody from Norway,” Trump said, according to the reported remarks.

His comments drew attention because they appeared to connect immigration preferences with his longstanding frustration over not receiving the prestigious international award.

Trump Renews Criticism of Norway

During the rally, Trump described Norway in vulgar terms, using language he had previously directed at other countries, including Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

He has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, despite claiming credit for diplomatic initiatives and efforts to resolve international conflicts.

Earlier in October, Trump reportedly described the failure to award him the prize as an “indelible stain” on Norway.

However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee operates independently, and the Norwegian government does not decide who receives the award.

Norway Says Nobel Committee Is Independent

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded to the controversy by reiterating that the Nobel Committee was independent.

“He knows very well that the Nobel Committee is independent. We have reminded them of that, if anyone is wondering, and that is still the case,” Eide told Norwegian public broadcaster NRK on Monday.

Norway’s foreign ministry declined to comment further, according to the report.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee had not immediately responded to requests for comment.

No Official Immigration Ban Announced

Despite Trump’s remarks, there was no indication that his administration had introduced or was preparing a new immigration policy specifically targeting Norwegian citizens.

His comments were made during a political rally and did not constitute an announced change to US immigration rules.

The remarks nevertheless raised questions about the relationship between Trump’s personal grievances, his political rhetoric and the administration’s approach to immigration.

Norway Among the World’s Wealthiest Countries

Trump’s description of Norway contrasts with the country’s economic standing.

According to International Monetary Fund data, Norway ranks among the world’s highest-income countries when measured by gross domestic product per capita.

The country’s sovereign wealth fund, which invests revenues generated largely from its petroleum sector, also reported a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to approximately $184.3 billion, in the first half of 2026, according to the report.

The episode adds to the diplomatic controversy surrounding Trump’s repeated criticism of Norway over the Nobel Peace Prize. For now, however, his comments about Norwegian immigrants remain political rhetoric rather than evidence of a new official immigration restriction.
