LONDON: World number one Elena Rybakina and American star Coco Gauff have been drawn in the same group for the 2026 WTA Finals, while second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka will face third-ranked Mirra Andreeva in Group Two.

The season-ending tournament will bring together the world’s top eight qualifiers at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden from November 8 to 15.

Rybakina Faces Tough Group

Defending champion Rybakina will begin her title defence against Gauff, four-time WTA Finals participant Jessica Pegula and reigning Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova.

Noskova will be making her debut at the prestigious tournament, adding another challenge to an already competitive group.

Rybakina claimed the world number one ranking following September’s US Open and said the position had brought both pressure and motivation.

“It has been an unbelievable couple of months,” she said during Tuesday’s draw ceremony.

“It is of course pressure because of all of the attention, but at the same time it’s motivation because you don’t want to lose. In this sport, you still need to work a lot.”

Sabalenka Leads Group Two

Group Two will feature Sabalenka, Andreeva, 2018 WTA Finals champion Elina Svitolina and Czech player Karolina Muchova.

Sabalenka will be aiming to reclaim the top ranking after losing it to Rybakina following the US Open.

The Belarusian has enjoyed a successful season, winning both the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments to complete the prestigious Sunshine Double.

Her meeting with Andreeva is expected to be one of the major attractions of the group-stage competition.

Tournament Returns to Indian Wells

The WTA Finals will feature the eight highest-ranked players who qualified for the season-ending championship.

The competitors will be divided into two round-robin groups, with the top two players from each group advancing to the semifinals.

The 2026 edition will take place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden from November 8 to 15.

The tournament is moving to Indian Wells after organisers announced in July that it would leave Riyadh following the early conclusion of the WTA’s hosting agreement with Saudi Arabia.

With several of the world’s leading players competing for the season-ending title, the championship is expected to deliver a closely contested finish to the women’s tennis season.
