The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has rejected a notification circulating on social media claiming that TikTok is being banned in Pakistan, clarifying that no such announcement has been issued by the regulator.
The authority described the circulating information as false and misleading, urging citizens not to believe or share unverified claims. The clarification comes as TikTok continues operating in Pakistan, where the platform recently reported removing more than 23.2 million videos for violating its community guidelines.
PTA Clarifies Its Position
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, the PTA said it had not issued any notification announcing a ban on TikTok in the country.
“PTA clarifies that no such notification has been issued, and the circulating information is false and misleading,” the authority stated.
The regulator advised the public against sharing or relying on unverified information circulating on social media.
It also urged citizens to obtain authentic updates through the PTA’s official website and verified social media accounts rather than believing notifications and announcements whose authenticity cannot be confirmed.
TikTok Removes 23.2 Million Videos
Separately, TikTok’s latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report revealed that the platform removed 23,243,711 videos in Pakistan between April and June 2026.
The report, released on Thursday, showed that nearly 95% of the removed content was taken down within 24 hours of being posted.
According to the figures, 99.7% of the videos removed in Pakistan were detected and taken down proactively through the platform’s enforcement systems. The video removal rate stood at 1.1%.
TikTok also restored 519,075 videos in Pakistan after further reviews found that the content could be reinstated.

Global Content Moderation Figures
Worldwide, TikTok removed more than 188.2 million videos during the second quarter of 2026.
Automated detection technologies accounted for 99.5% of global video removals. The platform also restored approximately 6.26 million videos following further reviews.
The report showed that 92.7% of violating videos worldwide were removed within 24 hours of being uploaded.
These figures reflect the platform’s content moderation activities and enforcement of its community guidelines across different markets.
Previous TikTok Ban in Pakistan
TikTok has faced restrictions in Pakistan in the past over concerns about content considered inappropriate or against local standards.
On November 19, 2021, the PTA restored TikTok services after the platform assured the authority that it would take measures to control what it described as immoral and indecent content.
The restoration came after the video-sharing application had remained suspended for nearly five months.
The PTA’s latest clarification, however, makes clear that the notification currently circulating on social media does not represent an official decision to ban TikTok in Pakistan.
