A disturbing criminal case has emerged in Los Angeles, where a social media influencer, her father, and her partner have been charged with allegedly attempting to hire a hitman to kill a singer from the boy band Why Don’t We. The case has drawn major attention due to its serious allegations and the involvement of an FBI undercover operation.

Allegations Filed by Prosecutors

According to a statement from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued on May 19, 2026, the accused include Gabriela Gonzalez, her father Francisco Gonzalez, and her partner Kai Cordrey.

Prosecutors say the group is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and solicitation to commit murder. The alleged target is singer Jack Avery, who is also known for his work with the pop band Why Don’t We.

Authorities believe the motive is linked to a long-running custody dispute between Gonzalez and Avery, who share a seven-year-old daughter.

Claims of Planning and Dark Web Contact

Court documents cited in the case allege that Gabriela Gonzalez had previously expressed hostility toward Avery during earlier custody proceedings. In one instance in 2021, she reportedly spoke about wanting him dead and discussed the idea of hiring a hitman.

Investigators say that between 2020 and 2021, Gonzalez and Cordrey attempted to find a contract killer through dark web channels. They allegedly created an online identity to communicate with someone they believed to be an assassin.

Her father, Francisco Gonzalez, is also accused of being involved in the planning stage and allegedly contributed financial support to the operation.

FBI Sting Operation Exposed the Plot

Authorities later determined that the individuals were communicating with an undercover FBI agent posing as a hitman. This sting operation ultimately uncovered the alleged murder-for-hire plan before any physical harm occurred.

According to court filings, Cordrey allegedly informed the undercover agent that the request came from “Jack Avery’s ex-girlfriend” and that her father would pay for the arrangement.

The complaint also states that around $14,000 was transferred during the alleged attempt to hire the fake hitman.

Arrests and Court Proceedings

Gabriela Gonzalez was arrested last week and is scheduled to appear in court on May 21, 2026. Her father is reportedly in custody in Florida, while Cordrey’s current legal status has not been publicly confirmed.

If convicted on all charges, the accused could face lengthy prison sentences, potentially up to 25 years in state prison.

Background of the Individuals

Gabriela Gonzalez is known as a TikTok creator with a following built around lifestyle content. The case has attracted attention due to her public profile and the seriousness of the allegations.

Jack Avery is a member of the boy band Why Don’t We, which gained popularity in the late 2010s and released multiple albums during its active years. He has also pursued solo music work in recent years.

Case Still Under Legal Review

The case remains active as prosecutors prepare to present further evidence in court. The upcoming hearing is expected to provide more clarity on the extent of the alleged conspiracy and the roles of each accused individual.
