Inspection Reveals Serious Safety Lapses
The Punjab Health Care Commission (PHC) has ordered the closure of the Ramzan Safdar Polyclinic in Deona Mandi, Gujrat, after uncovering multiple violations of medical safety regulations. The decision follows a series of inspections and complaints from patients regarding substandard medical practices at the facility.
According to official sources, the first inspection was conducted on October 26 by the District Health Authority (DHA) Gujrat. During the visit, officials identified non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the clinic’s operation theatre. As an immediate measure, the theatre was sealed to prevent further procedures.
Renewed Investigation Uncovers Further Violations
A subsequent inspection was carried out by a PHC team led by the Additional Director of Inspection. During this visit, officials found expired medicines and other serious breaches of basic medical protocols. Investigators collected extensive evidence documenting the clinic’s violations, ultimately leading to the closure of the entire facility.
Authorities stated that the action was prompted in part by complaints from citizens who alleged that a recent surgery on a minor patient at the hospital went wrong, leaving the child in a critical condition, similar to a case reported earlier at another Gujrat clinic here. While the PHC has not released specific patient details, the case underscores growing public concern over healthcare quality in private clinics.
Officials Vow Strict Legal Action
In a media statement, the CEO of Health Gujrat emphasized that the government will continue to take strict legal measures against medical facilities and practitioners who compromise patient safety. We will not tolerate substandard healthcare services or unqualified doctors operating in our district, he said.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in Pakistan’s private healthcare sector, where regulatory oversight is often limited, and violations can endanger patient lives. According to recent PHC reports, inspections of private clinics have increased nationwide to curb unsafe practices and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
Authorities have urged the public to report any malpractice or suspicious medical activity to local health departments to protect community health.
