Apple has warned customers that its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, will be available in limited quantities at selected retail stores when the device launches on Friday.
The announcement comes after initial online orders sold out within minutes, pushing delivery estimates for some customers to January.
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo in September, entering the premium foldable smartphone market, where competitors such as Samsung Electronics and Huawei Technologies have offered devices for several years.
The launch represents a significant step for Apple as it expands beyond its traditional smartphone design and competes in a segment that combines conventional phone functionality with a folding display.
Apple Confirms Limited Walk-In Availability
In a statement, Apple said its retail teams were preparing to welcome customers to experience the new device and the wider iPhone lineup on launch day.
The company confirmed that Apple Stores would have limited iPhone Duo units available for customers wishing to purchase the phone without placing an online order in advance.
Apple added that it was working to deliver the product to customers as quickly as possible.
However, the availability of walk-in units will vary by market, meaning customers may need to check local store inventory before visiting.
Which Countries Will Have iPhone Duo in Stores?
Apple said online order collection and limited walk-in purchases would be available in the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico and much of the United Kingdom and Europe.
In several other markets, the device will be available only to customers who have already purchased it online.
These markets include mainland China, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Macau will follow a different arrangement, with limited iPhone Duo inventory available exclusively for walk-in customers, according to Apple.
The different launch arrangements reflect variations in product availability across markets. Customers planning to buy the device on Friday may therefore face different options depending on their location.

Strong Demand Puts Pressure on Initial Supply
The rapid sellout of initial online orders indicates strong early demand for Apple’s first foldable smartphone.
However, the iPhone Duo presents manufacturing challenges that differ from those associated with conventional smartphones.
Its folding design requires a precision-engineered hinge and other specialised components. Analysts have suggested that producing the device in large quantities could take time as Apple works to refine its manufacturing processes.
These complexities may contribute to supply constraints during the initial launch period.
Apple Enters a Competitive Foldable Phone Market
Apple’s entry brings a major new competitor into a market already served by Samsung and Huawei.
Foldable smartphones offer users a different form factor from traditional devices, but their more complex construction also presents challenges for manufacturers seeking to scale production while maintaining quality.
For Apple, the launch will test whether it can meet early demand while establishing a strong position in the premium foldable segment.
With initial online stocks already sold out and limited walk-in availability planned for Friday, prospective buyers may need to act quickly or wait for additional inventory.
The availability of the iPhone Duo is expected to depend on local stock levels and Apple’s ability to increase production in the coming weeks and months.
