A false death report claiming legendary Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan has died has spread rapidly across social media, causing concern among fans around the world.
Posts featuring a black-and-white image of Chan alongside the dates “1954-2026” have circulated widely online, falsely suggesting that the 72-year-old actor has passed away.
However, there is no credible report confirming Chan’s death. The actor, whose birth name is Fang Shilong, is alive and has continued to make public appearances.
How the Jackie Chan death hoax spread
The false claims have appeared across multiple social media platforms, with some posts attracting millions of views within a matter of hours.
One widely circulated post reportedly received more than 8 million views, demonstrating how quickly unverified celebrity death claims can spread online.
Such hoaxes often gain traction when they use realistic-looking tribute images and dates but provide no reliable source or confirmation from the celebrity’s representatives, family or established news organisations.
Chan’s recent public appearance
Chan’s most recently reported public appearance was on July 7, when he visited Pei Chun Public School in Singapore.
Singapore’s The Straits Times reported that Chan attended an event organised by the Lim Family Foundation and interacted with more than 900 students during the visit.
