Karachi: 6-Storey Residential Building Collapses, 7 Dead, Several Injured

Rescue teams rush to Lyari's Baghdadi area as dozens feared trapped under debris; Sindh government orders urgent investigation and rapid response.

Karachi, Lyari: A tragic incident occurred in the Baghdadi area of Lyari where a 6-storey residential building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 7 people and injuries to several others.

Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately upon receiving the alert. According to officials, multiple residents are believed to be trapped under the rubble, and full-scale rescue operations are currently underway.

Authorities confirmed that three women are among the eight people injured, and the toll may rise as more people remain buried beneath the debris. Rescue efforts are ongoing to retrieve them safely.

The adjacent building has also suffered structural damage, raising fears of another potential collapse in the area. Locals report that 20 to 25 individuals may still be trapped under the debris.

Chippa Welfare spokesperson confirmed that initial reports indicate 3 deaths and numerous injuries, but the number has increased as the rescue continues.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani has taken urgent notice of the incident. He contacted senior officials from all relevant departments and instructed that rescue operations be carried out swiftly and without delay.

He emphasized the need to clear the surrounding area to speed up rescue work and directed SBCA (Sindh Building Control Authority) and other agencies to supervise operations personally.

Minister Ghani also called for an immediate investigation into the cause of the collapse and has demanded a detailed report outlining the reasons behind the tragedy.
