UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has voiced serious concern over the worsening security situation in the Middle East, warning that renewed hostilities and fragile ceasefires highlight the vulnerability of regional peace.

Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the recent surge in violence is a clear reminder of how quickly tensions can spiral out of control in an already unstable region.

He stressed that continued conflict not only threatens regional stability but also risks wider global repercussions.

“Cycle of Violence Must End”

Ambassador Asim urged all parties involved in ongoing conflicts to step back from confrontation and return to diplomacy.

He stated: “The cycle of violence and instability must end for the good of regional and international peace, security and prosperity.”

According to Pakistan’s position, the breakdown of diplomatic engagement and renewed fighting has further complicated sensitive issues, including the Iran nuclear file and the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) verification efforts.

Call for Diplomatic Solutions

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, the ambassador emphasized that all outstanding disputes — including the Iran nuclear issue — should be resolved through:

  • Peaceful dialogue
  • Diplomatic engagement
  • Negotiated settlements based on mutual respect

He warned that abandoning diplomacy in favour of military escalation would only deepen instability and make solutions harder to achieve.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Engagement

Ambassador Asim also highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. He said Islamabad has been in continuous contact with key regional and international partners, including:

  • Saudi Arabia
  • Egypt
  • Türkiye
  • Qatar
  • China

These engagements, he said, are focused on encouraging dialogue, preventing escalation, and supporting efforts to bring conflicting parties back to the negotiating table.

“Give Peace a Little More Chance”

Concluding his statement, the Pakistani envoy urged all sides to exercise restraint as diplomatic efforts continue.

He remarked: “Give peace a little more chance,”

emphasizing that patience and sustained dialogue remain the only viable path toward long-term stability.

Pakistan’s message at the UN reflects growing international concern over overlapping crises in the Middle East. By calling for restraint and renewed diplomacy, Islamabad has positioned itself as a supporter of negotiated solutions at a time when regional tensions remain dangerously high and unpredictable.
