Ryan Reynolds has shared exciting news for Deadpool fans, confirming that another film featuring the fan-favorite antihero is officially in development.

Speaking during Fanatics Fest 2026, the actor and producer announced the project before a packed audience, revealing that work has already begun on bringing the “Merc with a Mouth” back to the big screen. The announcement comes after the remarkable commercial success of 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which became one of the biggest superhero films of recent years.

Plenty of Comic Book Stories Still Remain

During his on-stage appearance, clips of which were later shared on X, Reynolds said there is still a wealth of material from the Deadpool comic books that has yet to be adapted for the screen.

He noted that several lesser-known storylines remain unexplored and specifically praised writers Fabian Nicieza, one of Deadpool’s co-creators, and acclaimed comic book writer Gerry Duggan for their contributions to the character’s legacy.

Reynolds told fans that new material is currently being developed and expressed confidence that audiences will eventually see another Deadpool film, adding that he believes it will be “great.”

Story Details Remain Under Wraps

Although Reynolds confirmed the project is moving forward, he did not reveal any details about its storyline or cast.

He also declined to clarify whether the upcoming film will be a traditional standalone Deadpool sequel or a larger ensemble project in which the character shares the spotlight with other Marvel heroes.

His latest comments align with industry reports published last year suggesting that Reynolds had been exploring ideas involving X-Men characters for the franchise’s next chapter.

A Shift From Earlier Comments

The announcement marks a notable change from Reynolds’ earlier stance on the future of the franchise.

In 2024, the actor said he was hesitant to lead another conventional solo Deadpool film, explaining that the character is at his best when placed in challenging and unexpected situations. At the time, he felt that producing a fourth traditional solo installment could become repetitive.

However, Reynolds emphasized that evolving the franchise does not mean losing the humor or emotional depth that fans have come to expect. According to him, there is still a meaningful journey left for the character.

Franchise Built on Record-Breaking Success

The Deadpool franchise began with the original film in 2016, followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018. Its latest installment, Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), reunited Reynolds with Hugh Jackman, who returned to the role of Wolverine.

The film earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history. Its commercial and critical success has further strengthened expectations for the franchise’s next chapter.

While Marvel Studios has yet to announce a release date or officially unveil additional details, Reynolds’ latest update confirms that fans can look forward to seeing Deadpool return to cinemas in the future.
