MURREE: A school van plunged into a ravine and caught fire on Angoori Road in Murree on Tuesday, leaving 11 people injured, most of them schoolchildren, according to rescue officials.
The accident occurred near the Lower Mohra Barahotra area after the van reportedly went out of control and fell off the road before catching fire.
Rescue officials said the vehicle was carrying children from both private and government schools.
Injured children shifted to hospital
The injured were transported to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Murree for medical treatment.
District Police Officer Murree Raza Tanveer visited the hospital and inquired about the condition of the injured children.
According to the DPO, eight of the injured children were in stable condition. Three others, identified as Arham, Hasan Talib and Ayesha, were referred for further medical care.
Officials said all 11 occupants of the van sustained injuries in the incident.

Van reportedly overcrowded
According to an initial report, 11 people were travelling in the van despite the vehicle having a designated capacity of eight passengers.
The report also indicated that the fire may have started after sparking in the vehicle’s battery.
The van reportedly did not have a fire extinguisher at the time of the accident, according to the preliminary findings.
Rescue 1122 personnel reached the site and extinguished the fire following the accident.
Authorities are continuing to assess the circumstances surrounding the crash and the subsequent fire.
