Seattle: Two people were killed and several others were injured after gunfire erupted during the annual Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday evening, authorities confirmed.
According to the Seattle Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, when an unidentified suspect opened fire on a crowd attending the popular event.
Chaos Erupts at Popular Food Festival
The shooting triggered panic among festivalgoers as people rushed to flee the area. Police officers, emergency responders, and other law enforcement agencies quickly arrived at the scene and secured the location.
The incident took place at Seattle Center, where the three-day Bite of Seattle festival was underway. The annual event attracts thousands of visitors and is held just a block away from the city’s iconic Space Needle.
One Suspect Arrested
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and it is too early to determine the motive behind the attack.
FBI, ATF Join Investigation
Due to the scale of the incident and the large crowds present at the festival, multiple federal agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), have joined the investigation.
Officials are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Several people sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
Among the injured is a 2-year-old child, while a woman remains in critical condition, according to authorities.
Monorail Service Suspended
Following the shooting, Seattle Center Monorail operations were suspended for the remainder of the night as a precaution.
Officials said service is expected to resume on Monday, July 27, once the area is deemed safe.
