The Sindh government has announced plans to install giant screens in Karachi and several other cities to broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals and final, allowing football fans to watch the tournament’s biggest matches together in a festive atmosphere.

The initiative, launched by the Sindh Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to promote sports, healthy lifestyles and youth engagement through international sporting events.

Giant screens to be set up in Karachi and other cities

Sindh Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar said that football fans in Karachi’s Malir district will be able to watch both semi-final matches on July 15 and 16 at the Youth Development Centre in Sharafi Goth. The FIFA World Cup final, scheduled for July 20, will also be screened at the same venue.

The minister added that similar arrangements have been made in Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas, where supporters will gather to watch the tournament’s decisive matches on large outdoor screens.

More venues across Sindh

According to the provincial government, Sukkur’s Municipal Stadium will host public screenings of both semi-finals as well as the final. In Rohri, football fans will be able to watch the final match at the Rohri Football Ground.

Meanwhile, all three matches—the two semi-finals and the final—will be screened at the Ghotki Sports Complex, while the Thatta Sports Complex will host a public screening of the World Cup final.

The widespread arrangements are intended to ensure that football supporters across different parts of Sindh can enjoy the tournament in a community setting.

Promoting sports and youth engagement

Speaking about the initiative, Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar said the Sindh government is taking practical steps to encourage sports participation and healthy recreational activities among young people.

He noted that watching major international sporting events together can inspire greater interest in sports, strengthen community engagement and help develop football culture throughout the province.

According to the minister, exposing young people to world-class football competitions can motivate aspiring athletes while fostering a positive sporting environment.

FIFA World Cup excitement reaches Pakistan

The 2026 FIFA World Cup has generated significant enthusiasm among football fans in Pakistan. The tournament’s semi-final lineup features Argentina, England, France and Spain, setting up highly anticipated matches between some of the world’s strongest national teams.

Although cricket remains Pakistan’s most popular sport, football has witnessed rapid growth in recent years, with international tournaments attracting large television audiences and passionate fan gatherings across the country.

By organising public screenings, the Sindh government aims to give football enthusiasts an opportunity to experience the excitement of the World Cup together while promoting sportsmanship, unity and greater appreciation for the game among the younger generation.
