Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter has officially adopted a new legal identity, marking a significant personal milestone nearly two decades after being born into one of Hollywood’s most famous families.
According to voter registration records obtained by People magazine, the 20-year-old has legally changed her name from Suri Cruise to Suri Noelle. The update was first reported by Page Six.
New surname pays tribute to Katie Holmes
The name “Noelle” holds personal significance, as it is also the middle name of Suri’s mother, actress Katie Holmes.
Suri, who is currently studying at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, reportedly registered to vote in Allegheny County during her freshman year in October 2024 using her new legal name.
Name change first appeared at graduation
The legal change first caught public attention in June 2024 when Suri was listed as Suri Noelle during her high school graduation ceremony.
The graduation weekend coincided with Tom Cruise attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert in London.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes separated in 2012
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri in April 2006 and married later that year. Their marriage ended in 2012, after which Holmes largely raised Suri away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Despite growing up under intense public attention, Suri has maintained a relatively private life while pursuing her education.

Katie Holmes expressed pride in her daughter
Speaking previously to Town & Country, Holmes shared her excitement about Suri beginning college.
“I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”
She added that starting college is an exciting period of self-discovery and said she was happy to see her daughter entering a new chapter of life.
Holmes dismissed inheritance rumours
In late 2024, Katie Holmes publicly rejected reports claiming Suri had inherited a trust fund from Tom Cruise.
Responding on Instagram, Holmes wrote:
“Completely false.”
She also criticised the reports in the caption, adding, “Enough.”
Keeping a low profile
Although she remains one of Hollywood’s most recognised celebrity children, Suri continues to keep a low public profile. In 2025, she was photographed reuniting with her mother on the New York set of Happy Hours, highlighting her preference for private family life over the entertainment spotlight.
