ISLAMABAD: The sisters of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan on Wednesday publicly rebuked the leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing them of remaining silent and failing to actively pursue his legal cases.
Speaking to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Aleema Khan — accompanied by Uzma Khan and Noureen Khanum — questioned the absence of key party lawyers and leaders.
“Where are Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Latif Khosa and Barrister Ali Zafar? Why are they not pursuing the cases?” Aleema asked.
Concerns Over Legal Strategy
Imran Khan, 73, has been incarcerated since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases, which he maintains are politically motivated after his removal from office in a 2022 parliamentary vote of no confidence.
Aleema alleged that despite her brother’s repeated instructions to file petitions, party leadership had failed to ensure progress in courts, including the Supreme Court and high courts. She criticised PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan’s performance, claiming he had not secured hearings in key cases.
She also accused party leaders of making decisions independently without informing the family.
Health Issues Raise Fresh Tensions
Khan’s health has recently become another flashpoint between the government and the opposition. He was transferred earlier this week to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he received a second anti-VEGF intravitreal injection for a diagnosed eye condition.

Aleema alleged that government doctors were under pressure and insisted that the family’s own doctors should be allowed to remain present during medical consultations.
“We want the party to take action now,” she said, adding that no decision regarding her brother’s health should be made without family consultation.
Questions Over Contact With Interior Minister
The sisters also questioned reported contact between PTI leaders and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, asking why such interactions were not communicated to the family.
Aleema said she learned from Naqvi that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar was scheduled to visit the jail, expressing frustration that the family appeared to be receiving updates from the government rather than from their own party.
Political Fallout
Aleema further claimed that divisions within PTI were becoming visible and suggested that both party members and the public were aware of internal “traitors.” She reiterated that her brother remained the central figure in national politics and within the party.
“The party leadership is nowhere to be seen and there is complete silence,” Uzma Khan added.
The public criticism highlights growing strain between Imran Khan’s family and the PTI leadership as legal battles and health concerns continue to dominate the political landscape.
