Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has expressed his gratitude to fans after making a surprise undercover appearance as Deadpool during San Diego Comic-Con, celebrating the franchise’s journey over the past decade.
Reynolds stunned attendees on Saturday, July 25, when he quietly walked through the convention floor dressed in the iconic Deadpool costume before later revealing his identity in a behind-the-scenes video shared on social media.
Ryan Reynolds thanks Deadpool fans
Following the surprise appearance, Reynolds posted a heartfelt message thanking fans for their unwavering support, crediting them with helping turn Deadpool into one of Marvel’s biggest franchises.
“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago. Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly two years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world,” Reynolds wrote.
The behind-the-scenes video captured moments from his undercover walk through Comic-Con, where fans unknowingly interacted with the actor while he remained in full costume.
Surprise appearance during Marvel’s Hall H panel
Reynolds also made a brief appearance during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation for Avengers: Doomsday, joining the film’s cast on stage.
During the event, Robert Downey Jr., who is set to portray Doctor Doom, playfully addressed Reynolds, asking: “Who’s this guy with the swords and stuff?”
Reynolds responded with his trademark humor: “Long-time listener, first-time caller.”
As the audience erupted in applause, he jokingly added: “This seems an awfully expensive way to announce a film. When do you start filming?”
The lighthearted exchange became one of the standout moments of the Marvel presentation.
