KARACHI: The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed authorities across the province to remain alert as rain and thunderstorms are forecast in several districts from September 13 to 16.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said a monsoon low that had formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Odisha had moved into South Chhattisgarh and nearby regions.
The weather system is expected to move westward and may bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of Sindh during the coming days.
Karachi weather forecast
The PMD has forecast light rain and thunderstorms in Karachi from September 14 to 16.
Several other parts of the province are also expected to receive dust-thunderstorm rain, with some districts likely to experience moderate to isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
According to the PDMA advisory, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan may receive dust-thunderstorm rain, with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls, from Sunday evening through September 16.
The spell is expected to occur intermittently, with breaks between periods of rain.
Light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain is also forecast in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Shaheed Benazirabad and Jamshoro from September 14 to 16.
Karachi Division may likewise experience thunderstorms and light rain during the period.

Authorities directed to remain prepared
Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation Giyanchand Essrani said several parts of the province were expected to receive rain from September 13 to 16.
He directed deputy commissioners and relevant departments to ensure that machinery and staff remained ready to respond to any situation arising from the weather conditions.
Essrani also instructed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert throughout the forecast period.
The PDMA has separately directed deputy commissioners, chairpersons of District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and other relevant departments and stakeholders to take necessary mitigation measures.
Authorities have also been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary steps to minimise the risk of any untoward incident during the rain and thunderstorm spell.
The latest advisory comes as Sindh remains vulnerable to urban flooding, water accumulation and other weather-related disruptions during periods of heavy rainfall, making timely preparedness and response measures particularly important.
