KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened on a weak note on Monday as fragile investor sentiment and selling pressure across major sectors limited gains, although the benchmark index later recovered to trade slightly higher.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index stood at 166,453.27 points, gaining 33.56 points, or 0.02%, from the previous close of 166,419.71 points.

The marginal increase reflected a cautious trading session, with investors balancing buying opportunities against continued selling in several key sectors.

Selling Pressure Weighs on Major Sectors

Selling activity was reported in automobile assemblers, cement manufacturers, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, and oil marketing companies.

The weakness across these sectors limited the index’s ability to sustain a stronger recovery and kept overall market sentiment subdued.

The performance indicated that investors remained cautious, with selling in major stocks offsetting gains elsewhere in the market.

KSE-100 Records Intraday Volatility

During the session, the KSE-100 Index touched an intraday high of 166,698.46 points before falling to a low of 165,918.34 points.

The wide trading range highlighted continued fluctuations as investors responded to changing market conditions and reassessed their positions.

PSX Extends Gains as KSE-100 Index Climbs Over 1,400 Points

Despite recovering from its intraday low, the benchmark remained close to its previous closing level, suggesting that buying activity was not strong enough to generate a substantial upward move.

Trading Activity Reaches Rs4.66 Billion

Trading volume stood at 68.99 million shares, while the total traded value reached Rs4.66 billion, according to the market highlights.

The figures reflected ongoing activity in the market, although the benchmark’s limited gain indicated that selling pressure remained a significant factor during the session.

The PSX’s performance will continue to depend on investor confidence, buying interest and trading activity across major sectors.

For now, the marginal recovery in the KSE-100 Index offers little indication of a decisive change in market direction, as cautious sentiment continues to weigh on equities.
