The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) has announced the distribution of 700,000 Chromebooks to students nationwide to enhance digital access and promote technology-based learning.
PMYP Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said the initiative aims to equip young people with modern educational tools and bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas. The devices will be provided to deserving students enrolled in schools, colleges, and universities.
Phased Implementation for Transparency
The programme will be implemented in phases to ensure transparency and effective monitoring. Students from all provinces, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will be included under the scheme, according to PMYP officials.
Local Assembly Marks Industrial Milestone
The announcement coincides with Pakistan’s move toward local assembly of Chromebooks. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar described the initiative as an industrial milestone, noting that it would promote technology adoption, create jobs, and strengthen the local manufacturing ecosystem.
Locally assembled devices are expected to reduce costs and improve access to affordable technology, especially for students and educational institutions.
