The preliminary post-mortem report following the exhumation of businessman Mir Raza Ali has reportedly revealed a gunshot wound from the rear, along with marks of violence on his body.
Preliminary Report Reveals Key Findings
KARACHI: An initial medical report following the exhumation and post-mortem examination of businessman Mir Raza Ali has reportedly provided important details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to sources cited by Geo News, Ali sustained a gunshot wound from behind, while marks of violence were also found on his body.
Sources said the preliminary report has addressed all 14 points raised by police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed during the medical examination.
The findings could become significant for investigators as they attempt to establish exactly how Ali died and what happened before his body was recovered.
Investigation Team Yet to Receive Report
Despite the reported findings, the police investigation team has not yet officially received the medical report.
SSP SIU Samiullah Somroo, who is heading the investigation team, told Geo News that investigators had not been informed about the findings.
He also said the investigation team had not yet been contacted regarding the medical report.
The development means investigators will have to await the formal submission of the medical findings before incorporating them into the ongoing investigation.
17 Samples Collected During Exhumation
According to investigation sources, the exhumation process continued for approximately three hours and was conducted under the supervision of forensic experts.
A total of 17 samples were collected from Ali’s body during the procedure.
Four of these samples were obtained for DNA testing, while the remaining samples were collected for chemical examination. In addition, two reference samples were taken from Ali’s parents to facilitate DNA matching.
Sources said the chemical examination and DNA reports are expected to become available within three to four days.
All samples collected during the exhumation have been preserved and are expected to be submitted to the University of Karachi’s forensic laboratory on Monday for further examination.
Background to Mir Raza Ali’s Death
Ali, an IBA graduate, returned home from his shop on the night of July 28 before leaving again. He reportedly told his family that he would return within 10 minutes.
He did not return, and police later recovered his body from Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
His father subsequently alleged that his son had been murdered and rejected speculation that Ali had died by suicide.
The latest preliminary medical findings could therefore become an important part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Family Present During Exhumation
Ali’s family members and their lawyer, Jibran Nasir, were present at the graveyard during the exhumation proceedings.
A heavy contingent of police officers was also deployed at the site as medical board members collected various samples from the grave.
Following the examination, Ali’s body was reburied at a graveyard near Tariq Road.
Original Medical Board Restored
The authorities restored the original eight-member medical board on Friday to oversee the exhumation and post-mortem examination.
The decision came after Ali’s family had objected to the replacement of the original board with a newly notified five-member panel. The family had stopped the administration from proceeding with the exhumation scheduled for Friday morning because of concerns over the change in the board’s composition.
After the original panel was restored, the exhumation proceedings were carried out on Saturday.
Family Expresses Satisfaction With Proceedings
Ali’s father, Mir Hussain, told Geo News that he was satisfied with the proceedings.
He said he hoped that the issues he believed had occurred during the earlier post-mortem examination would not be repeated.
He also alleged that a fake audio recording purportedly featuring Ali had been circulated in an attempt to undermine the case.
The family’s lawyer had separately raised concerns about the overnight replacement of the medical board. However, he later said the family was satisfied with Saturday’s proceedings, which were conducted in the presence of the judicial magistrate, investigation officer and members of the examination team.
The forthcoming DNA and chemical examination reports are expected to provide further forensic evidence as investigators continue to determine the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death.
