The Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) opposition alliance has announced countrywide protests on Friday over rising inflation, recent increases in fuel prices, and issues related to political prisoners, intensifying pressure on the government amid ongoing political tensions.

The announcement came after a leadership meeting of the opposition alliance in Islamabad, where leaders agreed on a joint strategy and endorsed a broader political agenda.

Reasons Behind the Planned Protests

According to the alliance, the protests will focus on several issues, including:

  • Rising inflation and increasing cost of living
  • Recent petroleum price increases
  • Continued detention of political prisoners
  • Demand for medical treatment for former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi
  • Concerns over economic and governance issues

TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai said the demonstrations would take place across the country and would seek what the alliance described as constitutional and democratic rights.

Opposition Raises Health Concerns

The issue of Imran Khan’s health also featured prominently during discussions.

According to reports presented before the court, Khan was diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO), a condition involving blockage of the main vein that drains blood from the retina. The condition is often associated with factors such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol-related conditions, and cardiovascular issues.

Jailed PTI Leaders Appeal to CJP Over Imran Khan’s Medical Treatment

Opposition leaders demanded that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be shifted to a hospital immediately for medical attention.

PTI Signals Resistance to Budget Process

Speaking after the meeting, senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the opposition had also decided to oppose passage of the upcoming federal budget, arguing that parliamentary processes were becoming ineffective and opposition voices were being restricted.

He also criticised the government over:

  • Security challenges and terrorism concerns
  • Economic difficulties
  • Energy and fuel price increases
  • Industrial concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Political Temperature Rising

The announcement adds another layer to Pakistan’s already heated political environment, where economic concerns and political disputes continue to dominate public debate.

The scale of participation in Friday’s protests and the government’s response may shape the next phase of political activity in the country, particularly as budget discussions and economic policy decisions approach.
