A social media platform highlighting youth concerns gained massive popularity, but now questions surrounding free expression and political pressure have started to emerge.

Gen Z-Focused Platform Gains Rapid Popularity

A social media account focused on issues affecting India’s younger generation, particularly Gen Z, has recently become one of the most talked-about online phenomena. The satirical platform called Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) reportedly gained more than 22 million followers on Instagram within just a few days, making it one of the fastest-growing online movements in recent memory.

The account’s rise appears to be linked to its focus on issues that resonate strongly with young audiences. Through satire and social commentary, the platform highlighted concerns including unemployment, examination paper leaks, uncertainty about the future, and governance-related frustrations.

As economic and social challenges increasingly affect younger populations, many users seem to have connected with the themes being discussed on the platform.

Founder Alleges Hacking and Threats

The founder of CJP, Abhijeet Dipke, has alleged that the platform and his family have come under pressure following its rapid growth.

In posts on social media platform X, Dipke claimed that the group’s website had been taken down, the account on X had been withheld in India, and the Instagram account had been compromised. He also alleged that members of his family had received threats.

However, these claims have not been independently verified. Reports indicate that Indian authorities have not publicly confirmed any action against the website or Instagram account, and government ministries did not issue official comments on the allegations.

As a result, questions surrounding the claims remain unresolved.

Political Reaction Sparks Debate

The controversy has also generated political discussion. Indian federal minister Kiren Rijiju criticized what he described as anti-India narratives on social media and questioned online movements receiving support from outside the country.

Responding to those remarks, Dipke shared demographic data from the account and claimed that more than 94% of its audience came from India, rejecting suggestions that the movement relied on foreign support.

The exchange quickly intensified online discussions about political criticism, digital spaces, and the role of young voices in public debate.

Youth Concerns Extend Beyond Social Media

The issue also reflects broader concerns among India’s younger population. According to a survey cited in reports, more than 60% of respondents aged between 18 and 24 said they felt anxious about their future.

Many respondents linked these concerns to unemployment and governance issues, including examination paper leaks affecting millions of students.

Official data referenced in the report also indicated that urban youth unemployment stands at approximately 14%, noticeably higher than the overall unemployment level.

Observers say that social media platforms are increasingly becoming spaces where younger generations express concerns and mobilize around issues that directly affect them. At the same time, analysts argue that while online popularity can create visibility, long-term social or political influence often depends on organized activity beyond digital platforms.
