Veteran guard Marcus Smart has agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract with the Houston Rockets, strengthening the team’s backcourt as free agency continues.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the deal includes a player option for the second season, giving Smart flexibility after the first year of the contract.
The agreement was finalized on July 1, shortly after the NBA’s free agency period officially opened.

During the 2025-26 season, Smart appeared in 62 games, making the majority of his appearances as a starter.
He averaged:

- 2.8 rebounds per game
- 28.5 minutes per game
His overall impact extended beyond the traditional statistics, with his team reportedly outscoring opponents by 256 points while he was on the court, highlighting his defensive presence and leadership.
Strong Playoff Performance
Smart also delivered several notable performances during the postseason.
One of his standout games came when injuries sidelined key teammates, allowing him to take on a larger offensive role. In that contest, he recorded 21 points, 10 assists, and five steals, demonstrating his ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
Across the 2026 NBA playoffs, Smart averaged 2.4 steals per game, ranking third among all players in the postseason.
