Sri Lanka Win Toss, Elect to Field
The first One Day International (ODI) between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is underway at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, marking the start of a three-match bilateral series. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to field first, giving his bowlers an early opportunity to exploit the morning conditions.
Pakistan’s opening pair stepped in to bat with caution, aware of the new-ball threat on a slightly green pitch. Fakhar Zaman, known for his aggressive style, struck a few crisp boundaries to the delight of the home crowd. Meanwhile, Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq focused on building a solid foundation to stabilize Pakistan’s innings after the initial overs.
Crowd Energy and Fan Campaign
According to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), fans have filled the stadium with remarkable energy, rallying behind the team under the slogan #JeetKaScene (Scene of Victory). The campaign has gained popularity across social media, with thousands of fans sharing messages of support and excitement as international cricket continues to thrive on home soil.
Security arrangements and pitch conditions have been praised by both teams, reflecting Pakistan’s growing success in hosting international cricket events after years of neutral-venue matches.
Head-to-Head Record Favors Pakistan
Historically, Pakistan holds a clear upper hand over Sri Lanka in ODIs. Since their first encounter in 1982, the two sides have faced each other in 20 bilateral ODI series. Out of these, Pakistan have won 14, while Sri Lanka have claimed victory in only six.
Interestingly, Sri Lanka have not defeated Pakistan in a bilateral ODI series for over a decade. The last time they managed to do so was in 2013, underscoring Pakistan’s long-standing dominance in this format.
Fans Expect Another Win
Cricket enthusiasts across Pakistan are hopeful that the Green Shirts will maintain their winning streak. The combination of seasoned players like Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman, alongside emerging talents, offers the team a balanced lineup. With favorable home conditions and strong crowd support, expectations are high for another confident performance.
As the innings progresses in Rawalpindi, fans await whether Pakistan can convert their promising start into a commanding total and take the early lead in the series.
