On the first anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan has once again strongly rejected India’s allegations linking Islamabad to the incident, arguing that New Delhi has failed to present any credible evidence despite repeated accusations.
Pakistan Calls Allegations “Unproven” and Demands Inquiry
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said India has consistently avoided calls for an independent and impartial investigation into the attack. He maintained that Pakistan’s position has remained unchanged, insisting that only a neutral probe can establish the facts.
According to him, India’s refusal to accept such an investigation raises further questions about the credibility of its claims.
Reference to 2025 Conflict and Aftermath
The Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) last year resulted in the deaths of 26 people and triggered a sharp escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. Pakistan denied any involvement and called for a transparent inquiry, while India blamed Islamabad without presenting what Pakistan describes as verified evidence.
The situation escalated further when India launched strikes inside Pakistan, prompting a military response from Islamabad. The confrontation eventually ended in May 2025 following a US-brokered ceasefire.
Pakistan’s Allegations Against India
In his statement, Tarar said India’s handling of the incident reflects a broader pattern of behaviour and accused New Delhi of avoiding accountability. He claimed that Pakistan’s earlier proposal for an independent investigation was ignored.
He also pointed to what he described as inconsistencies in the initial response to the incident, including the rapid filing of a police report, which he suggested raised procedural questions.

Tarar further argued that international observers, including some media outlets and analysts, have also raised questions about India’s narrative surrounding the incident. He criticised sections of the Indian media for what he called sensationalised reporting and contributing to heightened tensions.
At the same time, he said Pakistan’s position has been consistently supported by its call for a neutral investigation rather than political allegations.
Broader Accusations and Regional Context
The minister expanded his remarks to include wider regional security concerns, alleging that India has been involved in destabilising activities inside Pakistan through proxy elements. He stated that Pakistan has shared related concerns with the international community at various forums.
He also referenced ongoing tensions in IIOJK, describing the dispute as an internationally recognised issue that requires resolution in line with United Nations resolutions.

Tarar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism, stating that the country remains united in protecting its sovereignty and internal security. He said Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership are aligned in their approach to national defence.
He also warned that any future escalation would be met with a strong response, while reiterating that Pakistan continues to prioritise peace and regional stability.
