Xi Praises Pakistan’s Role in Middle East Mediation During Meeting With PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held high-level meetings with Chinese leadership in Beijing, where discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. Chinese President Xi Jinping praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peace initiatives in the region.

Xi Highlights Pakistan’s Diplomatic Efforts

During the meeting in Beijing, President Xi Jinping appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive role” in efforts aimed at easing tensions and supporting peace initiatives in the Middle East.

According to reports, Xi also described Pakistan and China as having an “unbreakable traditional friendship” and stressed that Beijing continued to place high importance on relations with Islamabad as part of its regional diplomacy.

He reportedly referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as an “old friend,” highlighting the long-standing ties between the two countries.

PM Shehbaz Supports China’s Peace Initiatives

Prime Minister Shehbaz said Pakistan fully supported China’s proposed four-point framework for promoting peace and stability in the region.

He noted that the international environment was passing through a “critical phase,” particularly due to tensions in the Middle East, and stressed the importance of coordinated diplomatic efforts.

The prime minister also said Pakistan had played what he described as a “sincere role” in facilitating communication between the United States and Iran.

PM Shehbaz Arrives in Beijing for High-Level Talks With Chinese Leadership

Meetings With Chinese Premier Li Qiang

Earlier, PM Shehbaz met Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People, where delegation-level talks were held on bilateral cooperation and regional issues.

Li Qiang reportedly acknowledged Pakistan’s “positive role” in supporting regional peace and emphasized Beijing’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Islamabad.

The meeting also included ceremonial events, including a guard of honour and introductions of members from both delegations.

Multiple Agreements and Memorandums Signed

During the visit, Pakistan and China signed 15 agreements and memorandums of understanding covering a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Economic development cooperation
  • Climate and environmental cooperation
  • Agriculture and food security
  • Trade and investment
  • Science and technology
  • Counterterrorism cooperation
  • Education and human resource development
  • Media and cultural exchanges

The agreements also included protocols related to agricultural exports such as dried fruits, nuts, and maize.

Condolences Over China Mine Tragedy

Prime Minister Shehbaz also expressed condolences over the recent coal mine disaster in China’s Shanxi province, stating that Pakistan stood in solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy.

The meetings in Beijing come as Pakistan and China mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone reflecting decades of strategic cooperation.

With discussions focusing on trade, infrastructure, regional stability, and diplomatic coordination, both countries appear to be seeking deeper engagement across multiple sectors while maintaining their long-standing partnership.
