LOS ANGELES: Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has shared an emotional message after Marvel’s Wonder Man was unexpectedly canceled, thanking fans for their support despite the series’ strong reception.
The Emmy-nominated actor addressed the news in an Instagram post, expressing gratitude to viewers while remaining optimistic about the future.
‘The show worked’
Reacting to the cancellation, Abdul-Mateen wrote:
“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back. That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.”
Rather than focusing on the decision, he thanked everyone who watched and supported the series.
“I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it.”
Fans’ response meant the most
The actor revealed that he followed fan reactions online, including YouTube review videos, and was touched by messages from viewers who said the series inspired them not to give up.
He said seeing fans connect with the show was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
Ending his message on a hopeful note, Abdul-Mateen wrote:
“Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.”
Surprise cancellation
The cancellation surprised many Marvel fans, coming just months after reports that Wonder Man had been renewed for a second season.
The series reportedly recorded 618 million viewing minutes during its premiere week and received positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
Abdul-Mateen’s performance also earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, further highlighting the show’s critical success despite its cancellation.
