Pakistan has strongly condemned a drone attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates, calling it a serious violation of international law and warning of potentially “irreversible consequences” for human life and regional stability.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Foreign Office said any deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities is a grave breach of international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and global nuclear safety norms.

The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized that nuclear installations must never be targeted under any circumstances, stating:
- Such actions violate international law and nuclear safety principles
- They pose serious risks to human life and the environment
- They threaten both regional and global peace and security
The statement also highlighted that the inviolability of civilian nuclear infrastructure is a universally accepted international norm that must be strictly upheld.
Drone strike raises regional security concerns
The condemnation comes after a drone strike on Sunday caused a fire at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant site. According to UAE authorities, the incident did not result in injuries or any radiation leakage.

Officials said the drone struck an electrical generator outside the main protected perimeter of the facility. Other drones were reportedly intercepted before reaching their targets.
Despite the damage, the UAE’s nuclear regulator confirmed that the plant remains safe and fully under control, with no release of radioactive material.
Rising tensions amid wider regional conflict
The incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing conflict in the region that began in February 2026, involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which has significantly increased instability across the Middle East and Gulf areas.
Energy infrastructure in several countries has already been affected during the escalation, raising global concerns over the security of critical facilities.
Pakistan calls for diplomacy and restraint
Pakistan urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and comply fully with international law and humanitarian obligations.
The Foreign Office reiterated that only dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the UN Charter, can provide a sustainable path toward peace, stability, and de-escalation in the region.
Pakistan also expressed solidarity with the government and people of the UAE, reaffirming support in the wake of the incident.
